In the southwest region of France, near the Pyrenees, the Manseng family of grapes reign. A trio of regional whites, starring Petit Manseng joined by Camaralet and Petit Courbu, make up this melange of heady aromatics. Seriously exotic passion fruit and tropical bursts of honeydew and cantaloupe hit the nose in a rush of ripeness. Twirl again and juice-dripping peach surfaces along with apricot and sweetly perfumed white flowers. There is artistry in being able to craft a wine in a way that balances just the right amount of sweetness with a parity of alcohol and acidity in order to keep the wine structurally grounded and allow the fruit to soar. This is good work.
