2016 La Charmille, Sainte, Croix-Du-Mont (Bordeaux)

Grape(s) : Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon

Producer : Chateau La Grave

Where: popular local Parisian grocery store called Intermarché

Never let it be said I’m a snob to supermarket wine. On the contrary. That's my juice! My daily dose of self-affirming satisfaction, with or without meals. As a just under lush wine, I decided to Coravin this bottle to stretch the sweet treat over several weeks of on and off Thai street food from the new take-out in town. A 70/25 split between Sauvignon and Semillon (+5% Muscadelle), serve chilly. There's a pleasing taste with enough acidity to keep the sugars in check in addition to easy drinking citrus, tropical and stone fruit flavors. Far from cloying, it sits comfortably on the palate and could stand on its own (to a point).

Many sweet wines pair nicely with spicy dishes. You can also try it with a lighter spiced potato and veggie casserole, a fresh berry fruit bowl or peppered chicken.
